Note: All events came from social media accounts and official city and organization websites. No publications were consulted in the creation of this list. Due to rapidly changing conditions, attendees should stay updated on relevant alerts and last-minute announcements.
Statewide fires and urgent restrictions mean many Colorado cities are cancelling firework shows and noting alternate Fourth of July festivities.
Below is a non-comprehensive list of festive, firework-free evening events sorted by city. All of them are family-friendly and free to attend.
Daytime events, celebrations not on July 4 and any festivities with required costs are not included.
Aspen
The City of Aspen will offer two free evening events as part of their weekend-long slate of celebrations:
- A carnival will be open from noon to 8 p.m. at Rio Grande Park, where all four planned rides will be free to explore.
- There will be a drone show at 9:30 p.m. above Aspen Mountain; the city’s event page notes that Wagner Park will have the best views.
Breckenridge
As part of the city’s day-long event lineup, there will be a Stories in the Sky Drone Show at 9 p.m. The event announcement lists seven locations that offer views of the show.
Durango
The Bad Goat BBQ will take place from 3-10 p.m. at 11th Street Station, featuring food truck fare and local drinks. More information is available here.
There will be a Street Dance & Concert from 5 to 10 p.m. at Buckley Park and Main Avenue, featuring live music by the Dirty Dozen Brass Band starting at 7:30. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. The event description also mentions that lawn games, henna tattoos and more festive activities will be present.
The Union Social House will host a live performance by The Rev, happening from 6 to 9 p.m.
11th Street Station will have live music from Doc Wesson from 6 to 9 p.m.
Longmont
GRUNGE in the GARTEN will take place at Wibby Brewing from 1 to 9:15 p.m., with performances beginning at 3. According to the event page, the festival will feature free general-admission performances by four bands, with VIP options available. Free seating is first come, first served; all tickets are available here.
The festival will also feature food trucks, vendors, bounce castles, slides, and more throughout the surrounding area.
Loveland
As part of the City of Loveland’s July 4th Festival in North Lake Park, the Loveland Concert Band will perform at the Hammond Amphitheater. The concert begins at 8 p.m., “with free-will donations accepted.”
Salida
The Salida Community Center is hosting a half-day of festivities, featuring two free activities:
- According to their event post, there will be a lighted bike parade at 9 p.m., which will meet “at the caboose at the end of F Street.”
- Santa Rios will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Riverside Park.
Steamboat Springs
According to the city’s website, the Steamboat 4th of July Bash will offer three free evening events to enjoy, all taking place in Steamboat Square:
- An ‘80s-style Throwback DJ Dance Party & Costume Contest will happen from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with prizes for best moves and high spirits.
- As part of the Steamboat Mountain Concert Series and in celebration of the United States’ 250th birthday, The 6 Million Dollar Band will add to the ‘80s ambiance from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
- The night ends with a DJ After Party Under the Stars, taking place from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Telluride
According to the town’s event page, several drone shows will take place following an afternoon of activities, all in Telluride Town Park:
- The “Under the San Juans” Drone Show begins at dusk; the Fourth of July events page estimates a 9 p.m. start time.
- An “Electric Porcupine” Laser Show and Dance Party will follow at 9:15 p.m.
- The evening ends with a 10 p.m. “Sonic Bloom” Drone Show.
Winter Park
Pines at Meadowridge shared that a Brightflight Drone Show, part of Winter Park’s 4th of July Celebration & Concert lineup, will happen at 9:45 p.m. at Rendezvous Event Center. The evening will also feature live music, a bounce house and face painting.
