Avid Coffin Racegoers might know Shellie Finn as a member of the frequently competing racing team Emma’s Wake; however, Finn has been a Colorado Springs resident since she was a teenager and has an appreciation for the community-focused places Colorado has to offer.

In an email interview, Finn shared three of her favorite Colorado places and events, all of which make frequent contributions to their local communities.

1.     Crystal Park Cantina

Finn said this restaurant, located in Manitou Springs, is “locally owned” and “has the best Mexican food!”

According to their website, the owners of Crystal Park Cantina want their diners to feel at home; they are family-owned and serve “Grandma Anne’s” recipes in a casual setting. The cantina has indoor and outdoor seating, and no reservations are required.

2.     Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo

The Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo has been creating a community around the sport in Colorado Springs since 1937, and it usually takes place in July.

Both the event’s website and Finn describe it as a showcase of the best rodeo performances. During that time, the National Finals Rodeo Open is held to determine who will compete in the Las Vegas-based finals.

“Great event that showcases the best of the rodeo world each year before they compete in the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.”

3.     Nursing and Therapy Services of Colorado

Finn works for NTSOC, which she said is a Colorado-based “outpatient rehab clinic and home health agency” that “helps families with special needs kids and young adults.”

According to NTSOC’s website, this agency was created by the parent of a child with a disability to help families like theirs get medical support. Their nurses provide in-home medical services, and they have teams equipped to provide physical, occupational and speech therapy.

Additionally, the organization’s website notes that they offer a Certified Nursing Assistant training program, and they have a separate Family CNA Program for the relatives and parents of children with medical needs.

NTSOC has locations in Alamosa and Colorado Springs, and they primarily serve El Paso County and Teller County. They are also able to provide services in the San Luis Valley.
