Nic Johnson, the owner of horror coffee shop SCR3AM & SUGAR, recognizes the importance of exchanging support and partnering with horror-centric neighboring businesses.
Johnson listed five Denver businesses that specialize in horror and alternative offerings, highlighting the coffee shop’s main partnerships and the passionate people behind them in the process.
1. HORRID
HORRID is a horror vendor-focused gift shop that shares a building with several other spooky businesses, named “the House of Horrors,” and frequently partners with SCR3AM & SUGAR.
Their website features goods like candles molded to look like anatomically correct hearts, healing candles, a range of stickers, clothing and more.
HORRID also publishes a quarterly digital and print magazine that features more than 20 international artists in each issue.
Johnson gave a shoutout to Emerald Boes, who specializes in dark photography and created HORRID.
A link to Boes’ website, more of HORRID’s inventory, magazine issues for sale and additional information related to the gift shop can be found on their website.
2. Creepatorium
Johnson also shared that SCR3AM & SUGAR partners with Creepatorium, a venue for eccentric and alternative events, and shouted out Presley Peach.
According to their website, Boes is a co-owner and the marketing manager for the venue, alongside Peach, a macabre clown and local event producer.
Their events include horror movie nights, horror book club meetings, drag shows and burlesque performances.
More information on how to attend Creepatorium events and all that they have to offer can be found on their website.
3. Ghoul’s Night Out Horror Trivia
Ghoul’s Night Out hosts horror trivia events focused on a mix of spooky topics.
According to posts on their Instagram page, participants can occasionally enjoy costume-encouraged nights, added parties and competitions for prizes, like tickets to newly-released movies.
According to their Instagram bio, these events take place at local horror-themed tiki bar The Electric Cure on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 7:30 p.m.
4. Alabaster
Alabaster’s website describes the burlesque performer, host, producer and all-around artist as “Three Feral Cats in a G-String!”
She owns a burlesque production company, runs the Denver Burlesque Hub and collaborates frequently with SCR3AM & SUGAR and their partners on local events.
Johnson described Alabaster as “a huge staple in the Denver alternative burlesque scene.”
More information on Alabaster’s upcoming appearances and performances can be found on her website’s event calendar.
5. FashioNation
According to their “About Us” page, FashioNation began as a small punk and underground clothing store and has since grown into a hub for alternative clothing and accessories.
The store also promotes and attends alternative events and even receives visits from well-known bands via concert promoters, like Green Day and The Cramps.
The long-standing business sells items online and in-store, like T-shirts, leather goods, a range of Dr. Martens footwear and more.
More of their inventory, further information on the store’s backstory and additional ways to connect with them are available on their website.
