Be a Good Person’s design-forward clothing and positive products have always visually represented a broader mission: spreading positivity through impact and thoughtful community engagement.

The business began with a black-and-white slogan sticker that founders Julian Donaldson and Darian Simon posted to social media.

Trevor Obering, Be a Good Person’s director of operations and designer, said the pair’s mission was to spread positivity on social media without asking for any returns. Posting the design quickly attracted attention, which helped them build a platform with that concept at its core.

Obering said Donaldson’s graphic design background and Simon’s photography work influenced the simple and clean logo they have used since the start.

Today, their inventory features variations of the uplifting messaging on hats, shirts, hoodies, fanny packs, doormats and more. They mix and match fonts and colors on their products, occasionally creating capsule collections for partnerships or milestones, like their 10th anniversary last year.

Obering explained that a Be a Good Person item refresh will happen in time, but they work to keep their offerings simple and staple.

“Look for some new stuff coming out in the future, but we are blessed that we don't typically have to refresh things and kind of reinvent the wheel,” he said.

Be a Good Person’s products are available on their website as well as in-person at their headquarters.

While much of the business’s work takes place at their physical location, community efforts are a driving force.

Obering said Be a Good Person is open to all collaboration inquiries and works to keep partnerships aligned with their mission.

“I always tell people we're a clothing company, but we would be a pretty bad one if we didn't uplift the community that supports us and uplifts us. And so, we try to give back in everything that we do,” he said.

Be a Good Person’s community-serving collaborations transcend scale, connecting them with local, independently owned efforts, professional sports teams, well-known brand names and other organizations.

Obering highlighted a neighborhood cleanup collaboration with Topo Chico, as well as their work and events with Sled Hockey Colorado, an adaptive hockey team and nonprofit through the Colorado Avalanche.

Simon and Donaldson even traveled to Flint, Michigan, where they helped with the water initiative.

When it comes to giving back, Obering said Be a Good Person works to “reverse engineer” their support for local entities and communities.

“[Simon] always says this: ‘everyone's donating money to mental health, but my friends are still sad. But if we go buy a million roses instead of donating one million dollars, they'll hand out a million roses. I'm sure I'll get, you know, 999,000 smiles,’” Obering said.

When it comes to spreading positivity, Obering’s suggestion is to leave people a little better than before finding them.

“Time is very valuable; people see that. So, I think giving compliments, giving time, that's a good way to feel good about yourself and to make other people feel good as well," he said.
